Details as provided by Arthur Emerson III
"The Loaf" as it has been nicknamed is a stock 1995
GTI VR6,
and is the only stock VW being run in the SCCA ProSolo
series for
the past two years. (Without much luck, hence
the nickname.) This
is the very car that was the fastest GTI VR6 at Waterfest
95, 96, and 99,
and took the wins each time in stock trim against
some heavily-modded
cars. In addition, it had the fastest PAX time
at Waterfest 99 and
the third-fastest at Waterfest 98. The
1999 PAX margin of victory
was 0.409 seconds on a 16.2 second PAX'ed course,
or a 2.5% lead over second place!
The driver/owner, Arthur Emerson (me), also competed
in the 1996
Nevada Open Road Challenge as navigator in Mike Balasko's
GTI VR6
entry (http://www.gti-club.org/shows/nevada/),
and was a driver on one
of VW's two teams in the 1997 One Lap of America
(http://www.sintaks.com/onelap/).
Other notables include founding
the GTI VR6 discussion list in 1996, and running the
soon-to-be
defunct "GTI VR6 Online" web site. My latest
project is "Racing
for Tots", a local organization started by two VW
racers and taken
nationally to SCCA events through the huge decals
on the rear
quarter panels by a third VW driver (me). We
collect
new toys at all of our local sports car club's events,
and then
distribute them to local hospitals and charities at
the holidays.
